Job Title: Executive Director
The Houston Tennis Association (HTA) is a 501(c)(3), non-profit community service tennis organization. The mission of HTA is to promote and develop the growth of tennis in the greater Houston area.
Duties:
The Executive Director (ED) serves as HTA’s primary organizer, facilitator, and representative to community leaders, community partners and the organization’s members.
- The ED is responsible for overseeing HTA’s day-to-day operations, administration, programs and strategic plan, as well as ensuring HTA’s financial integrity and maintaining compliance with all applicable laws and statutes.
- The ED manages all staff positions and maintains the association office.
- The ED provides financial reporting and staff support for officers and directors in meeting HTA’s goals.
- The ED or Secretary shall see that notice is given to the general membership of meetings and other HTA activities.
- The ED maintains a close working relationship with HTA’s affiliates including USTA National, USTA Texas and supports national and state initiatives. The ED attends meetings as deemed necessary by the Board, including but not limited to, webinars, quarterly calls, etc., presented by USTA National and USTA Texas. The ED reports critical information received in this attendance to the Board of Directors.
- Other key duties include fundraising, marketing, community outreach and any other duties assigned by the President, Vice President, and the Executive Committee and/or the Board of Directors. The position reports directly to the Board of Directors.
- The ED oversees HTA programs approved by the Board including tournaments, leagues, junior programs, and scholarships so that all programs are carried out in an effective, professional manner.
- The ED partners with the Board of Directors to coordinate and attend all Board meetings and represent HTA at other functions as requested.
- The ED communicates effectively with the Board and provides, in a timely and accurate manner, all information needed by the Board to make informed decisions.
- The ED assists in the succession of board members yearly and supports the new board orientation along with supporting the work of the committees as requested.
- The ED works with HTA’s staff and consultants to prepare a yearly budget and ensure that HTA is operated consistently within that budget or that all discrepancies are reported to the Board and resolved. The ED generates financial and other reports as necessary for each Board meeting and oversees all grant applications and assists in their preparation.
Job Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree or 5 years relevant recent work experience (nonprofit experience is preferred)
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Understanding of QuickBooks, accounting and payroll practices
- Ability to use web and mobile based technology
- Self-motivation and strong initiative to create and expand job role
- Excellent organization skills
- Willingness and ability to represent HTA well in the community
- Ability to work well with staff and volunteers
- Tennis knowledge/experience preferred
Work Schedule and Compensation:
This is a full-time position averaging 40 hours per week (flexible 4-5 days in the office), some weekends will be necessary. Salary for the position is negotiable and commensurate with experience. HTA is an equal opportunity employer.
