JUNIOR TEAM TENNIS


USTA Junior Team Tennis (JTT) is the nation’s largest youth tennis league and is played in all 50 states. The
Houston Tennis Association (HTA) manages USTA JTT leagues two times a year – in the fall, and spring. USTA JTT
give young players of all ages and abilities the chance to play with friends, share the excitement of team play
and experience the challenges of real competition. Teams have the opportunity to advance through local,
regional and state competitions to a national tournament.

Each JTT team consists of girls and boys, in divisions from ages 6 to 18 and beginners to advanced players. JTT is not about the individual. It is about youngsters getting together to play singles, doubles and mixed doubles as a team – against other teams of players in the same age group and at the same ability level.
JTT promotes values and teaches lessons by fostering a spirit of cooperation, team unity and individual self-growth. It is a fun environment for young players, where they learn that succeeding is really much more about how you play the game – win or lose.

CITY WIDE ADULT TENNIS LEAGUES

Supported by the HTA and USTA

Annually, thousands of players participate in one or more of HTA’s league seasons. The Houston Tennis Association (HTA) organizes two city-wide league seasons each year - in the spring (January to April) and fall (September to December). Men’s and women’s singles and doubles are offered in these leagues. HTA also manages a number of USTA supported league seasons for all ages and skill levels each year, including leagues for ladies, men, mixed, Lone Star (for beginning adults), combo doubles, seniors (50+) and super seniors (55+).

The league matches are played throughout the Houston area at private clubs, neighborhood courts and the major public tennis centers, with teams playing home court and “away” matches. Teams from various age, ability and gender divisions become eligible to advance to regional and national tournaments

THE HOUSTON OPEN TENNIS TOURNAMENT

One of America’s Largest Public Tennis Tournaments

The annual Houston Open Tennis Tournament is the city’s largest and most anticipated tournament, with events for adults, seniors, super seniors and juniors. A major zone event for adults and juniors, the tournament is held over three weekends during the spring. It regularly attracts about 1,500 players, from the Houston area and across Texas, who enter to compete for trophies and statewide ranking points. Houston’s Lee LeClear Tennis Center serves as the headquarters for the tournament, but events are held at as many as eight sites, including all of Houston’s public tennis facilities as well as some private clubs.

An army of volunteers assists the Houston Tennis Association (HTA) staff in making
this tournament one of the best run tennis events in the nation. Adult players
include a cross-section of the community, men and women from all types of
professions and industries, all ethnic groups, and all levels of athletic ability. Many of
the rising junior players who enter the Houston Open go on to play collegiate tennis
at leading Texas colleges and universities. Past junior participants include many wellknown tennis players – Zina Garrison, Lori McNeil, Sammy Giammalva, Jr., Tony
Giammalva, Andy Roddick, Lleyton Hewitt, Tracy Austin and Richey Reneberg.
