What we do

Services and Programs for the Greater Houston Tennis Community

The Houston Tennis Association (HTA) is both a leading provider and advocate of amateur tennis in the Greater Houston community, as well as a charitable organization committed to expanding athletic and educational opportunities and providing scholarships to local youth.

Leagues

HTA is the largest administrator of amateur tennis leagues in the Greater Houston area, offering friendly, competitive play for athletes of all ages and skill levels. For more information on joining a league, please visit our Adults or Juniors pages, or contact the League Coordinator.

Junior Team Tennis

Junior Team Tennis (JTT) leagues are divided by skill level (Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced) and age group (18 & under, 14 & under, 12 & under, and 10 & under). JTT leagues are held during two seasons: USTA Spring League and USTA Fall League. The Spring League runs approximately from January to April, and the Fall League from July to October, with each season offering opportunities to advance to the USTA Sectional and National levels.

Adult Leagues

Adult leagues are offered in three seasons: HTA Spring Leagues, USTA Summer Leagues, and HTA Fall Leagues.

HTA Spring Leagues: January to March

USTA Summer Leagues: April to September

HTA Fall Leagues: September to November

Leagues are organized into Men’s, Women’s, and Mixed Doubles play based on NTRP rating (for more information, click here), as well as age-specific leagues for players 40 & over, 55 & over, and 65 & over. HTA also administers other formats, including Tri-Level and Combo leagues, which mix players of differing skill levels. Please click here for more information on adult leagues.

Tournaments

HTA administers tournaments throughout the year for both adults and juniors, including the largest amateur events in the city—and some of the largest in the state. Results in HTA tournaments earn USTA points that help players qualify for state and national rankings.

Other Programs

HTA is a driving force for inclusive tennis play and supports/coordinators the following programs in the Houston area: 10-and-under tennis,  Adaptive wheelchair tennis, and Special Olympics tennis.

Charitable

HTA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to growing tennis in the Greater Houston community. A key part of that mission includes providing scholarships and running the HTA chapter of the National Junior Tennis and Learning (NJTL) program—a free or low-cost youth tennis, education, and life-skills program founded by Arthur Ashe.

Since 1992, HTA has awarded over $227,000 in scholarships. Each year, more than 6,000 children participate in the NJTL program.

Jeff Lin- Former HTA President

“HTA is proud to be the premier organization for amateur tennis in the Houston community, and proud to give back to the community through scholarships, youth programs, and more.”
