The Houston Parks & Recreation Department – Youth Tennis Program is a FREE program offered at a variety of public parks throughout the year. The program provides children with fundamentals of the game of tennis & educational components that develop life skills. National Junior Tennis & Learning was founded in 1969 by tennis professionals Arthur Ashe, Charlie Pasarell & Sheridan Snyder, with the goal of developing the character of young people through tennis by:
REACHING out to those who may not otherwise have the opportunity to learn and play tennis.
INSTILLING the values of leadership and academic excellence.
GIVING youngsters the opportunity to fully develop their tennis skills so they can derive a lifetime of enjoyment from the sport.
Students are encouraged to participate in the additional educational programs offered through the NJTL. Creative expression through art, writing & research projects are a part of the summer programming. To reflect on Arthur Ashe‘s appreciation for reading, the NJTL Reading Rally celebrates the joy of reading and sharing books.
