About Us

Encouraging and promoting amateur tennis in Greater Houston since 1952.

Our Mission

Houston has now surpassed Chicago to become the third most populous city in the U.S. Our mission is simple, but one that remains perennially challenging: to grow the sport of tennis throughout the Greater Houston area. That means more players, more programs, better facilities, and deeper community involvement.

Our Values

At the HTA, we celebrate the belief that anyone, from anywhere, at any age, should be able to play, compete, and enjoy tennis. Diversity and inclusion are core values – we aim to remove barriers and create opportunities wherever possible so that tennis becomes a true reflection of our great city.

Our Programs

To some, the HTA is just leagues and tournaments. But we are so much more. We are also a charitable organization, providing scholarships for deserving high school students, free or low-cost tennis opportunities for over 6,000 young children in Houston, and support for schools and neighborhood centers.

About the HTA

Since 1952, the Houston Tennis Association (HTA) has served the Greater Houston area by organizing, promoting, and advocating for amateur tennis and charitable programs in Greater Houston. HTA organizes and administers junior, adult, senior, and adaptive leagues and tournaments for all levels of play, exclusively managing leagues and tournaments sanctioned by the United States Tennis Association (USTA). HTA also serves its community and members through charitable programs and scholarships, including the National Junior Tennis and Learning program (NJTL), a free or low-cost youth tennis, education and life-skills program founded by Arthur Ashe.

More than 10,000 players participate in HTA’s tournaments and leagues annually, and over 6,000 kids participate in the NJTL program each year. HTA remains committed to its mission, as stated in its bylaws: “to grow tennis in the greater Houston community.”
