The Houston Tennis Association (HTA) is a provider and advocate of amateur tennis in our community, as well as a charitable organization committed to, among other things, providing athletic and educational opportunities as well as scholarships to area youth.
Leagues
HTA is the largest administrator of amateur tennis leagues in the Greater Houston area, and offers friendly, competitive play for athletes of all ages and skill levels. For more information on joining a league, please visit our Adults or Juniors pages, or contact the League Coordinator.
Junior Team Tennis
Junior Team Tennis (JTT) leagues are divided by skill level (Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced) and age group (18 and under, 14 and under, 12 and under, and 10 and under). JTT leagues take place in two league seasons: USTA Spring League and USTA Fall League. USTA Spring League runs from approximately January to April, and USTA Fall League runs from approximately July to October, with each league offering opportunities to advance to the USTA Sectional and National levels.
“HTA is proud to be the premier organization for amateur tennis in the Houston community, and proud to be able to give back to the community through scholarships, youth programs, and more.”
– Jeff Lin
HTA Past President
Adult Leagues
Adult leagues are offered in three different league seasons: HTA Spring Leagues, USTA Summer Leagues and HTA Fall Leagues. HTA Spring Leagues and HTA Fall Leagues run from approximately January to March and September to November, respectively. USTA Summer Leagues run from approximately April to September, with opportunities to advance to competition on the USTA Sectional and National levels. Leagues are organized into Men’s, Women’s, and Mixed Doubles play based on NTRP rating (for more information, click here), as well as leagues specifically geared for those age 40 & over, 55 & over and 65 & over. HTA also administrates other formats, including Tri-Level and Combo tournaments, which mix players of differing ability levels. Please click here for more information on adult leagues.
Tournaments
HTA administers frequent tournaments throughout the year, for both adults and juniors, including the largest amateur tournaments in the city and some of the largest in the state. Results in HTA tournaments earn USTA points that qualify players for state and national rankings.
Other Programs
HTA is a driving force for inclusive tennis play, and supports and coordinates 10-and-under tennis programs, adaptive wheelchair tennis, and Special Olympics locally.
Charitable
HTA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation dedicated to growing tennis in the greater Houston community. Part of that mission is the growth of the game and service to our community through scholarships and the HTA chapter of the National Junior Tennis and Learning program (NJTL), a free or low-cost youth tennis, educational, and life-skills program founded by Arthur Ashe. HTA has given over $227,000 in scholarships since 1992, and over 6,000 kids participate annually in the NJTL program.
