HTA has distributed college scholarships totaling $20,000 to 19 greater Houston area high school graduates.
The students received sums from $1,000 to $2,000. In addition to HTA contributions, funds have been provided by the HTA/NJTL (National Junior Tennis and Learning), the National Senior Women’s Clay Court Championships, the Steve Wolford Memorial Scholarship Fund, Houston Ladies Tennis Association (HLTA), HLTA Mary Gaines Memorial Fund, West Houston Ladies Tennis Association, the LeMaster Husband-Wife tournament, the Sean Rudolph Memorial Scholarship, World Oilman’s Tennis Tournament and the Fayez Sarofim & Co. U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship.
Students who received the grants and their high schools and college destinations are Turner Anderson (Montgomery, Texas A&M), Keshav Balaji (UT Arlington), Camille Blecher (home school, Texas A&M), Sebastian Delgado (Dobie, Lamar U), Noah Elzner (Ball High, Rice), Alexander Hong (Stratford, UT Austin), Katherine Johnston (St. John’s, Washington U in St. Louis), Chloe Ku (Clements, Case Western Reserve), Jadon Lau (Stratford, Northwestern), Armida Montemayor (Klein Forest, Lone Star College-University Park), Paola Montoya (Galena Park, UH), Giselle Morales (Dobie, UH Clear Lake), Kristy Morales (Dobie, UfH Clear Lake), Emily Muckleroy (Ridge Point, Texas A&M), Joshua Rassin (Lamar, Washington and Lee), Gabriela Sandoval (Northbrook, UH), Tyler Tran (Glenda Dawson, UT Austin), Grayson Van Pelt (Clear Falls, Texas A&M), and Jennifer Vu (George Bush, UH).
All 19 students played either varsity tennis for their high school teams, participated in NJTL and/or in local USTA tournaments.
HTA has awarded more than $343,000 in scholarship funds to deserving high school seniors since 1992.
