The Houston Tennis Association is accepting applications for several college scholarships to be granted to graduating seniors in the greater Houston area.

The scholarships, which range from $1,000 to $2,500, will be awarded to high school students who have participated in high school varsity tennis and/or USTA Texas tournaments or programs.

In addition to HTA contributions, money for the scholarships has been provided by the Leona Schroeder Memorial Scholarship Fund (for a National Junior Tennis and Learning participant), the National Senior Women’s Clay Court Championships (for a young woman), the Michael Horvath Junior Memorial Fund, the Steve Wolford Memorial Fund, the Jodi Jablonski Memorial Fund, West Houston Ladies Tennis Association, and the World Oilman’s Tennis Tournament.

Students attending college on a tennis scholarship are not eligible to apply.

Selection of all students will be based on financial need, academic record, a personal letter explaining why the student deserves the scholarship, extracurricular and volunteer activities and two letters of recommendation.

The 2016 deadline to apply is Monday, May 9.

HTA has awarded more than $227,000 in scholarship funds to deserving high school seniors since 1992.

Instructions and the scholarship application are available here on the HTA website. For more information call 281-580-8313.
