HTA offers scholarship funds to graduating seniors

The Houston Tennis Association is accepting applications for several college scholarships to be granted to graduating seniors in the greater Houston area.

The scholarships, which range from $1,000 to $2,500, will be awarded to high school students who have participated in high school varsity tennis and/or USTA Texas tournaments or programs.  Students attending college on a tennis scholarship are not eligible to apply.

In addition to HTA contributions, money for the scholarships has been provided by the HTA/NJTL (for a National Junior Tennis and Learning participant), the National Senior Women’s Clay Court Championships (for a young woman), the Steve Wolford Memorial Scholarship Fund, Sean Rudolph Memorial Scholarship Fund, World Oilman’s Tennis Tournament Scholarship Fund, CSE W-Industries Excellence Scholarship, the Copperfield Racquet Club Scholarship and the Fayez Sarofim & Co. U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship Scholarship.

Selection of students will be based on financial need, academic record, a personal letter explaining why the student deserves the scholarship, extracurricular and volunteer activities and two letters of recommendation.  Contact 281-580-8313 or info@houstontennis.org for an application.

The deadline to apply is May 25, 2018.  The application form can be downloaded from houstontennis.org/scholarships/.

HTA has awarded more than $274,000 in scholarship funds to deserving high school seniors since 1992.
